On the subject of her passing, Ida once said, “If it’s a funeral, I won’t come!” so instead of making a depressing post on August 3, I thought it would be a good idea to celebrate Ida Lupino’s life and contributions to the entertainment industry as she would have wanted.
I’ve been reading film blogs for about a year now, and one of the things I’ve really loved seeing (especially recently) is how everyone in the classic film community comes together to write about a certain subject within the larger topic of old movies, rather it be a certain year for film (the 1939 blogathon that happened a few months ago), a celebrity (the upcoming blogathons for Vivien Leigh & Laurence Olivier and Lucille Ball), or a cause related to classic films (the film preservation blogathon). That being said, though my blog is relatively new, I’ve decided to host a Ida Lupino themed blog-a-thon on August 1 & 2. I think it would be a great way to remember Ida, as well as to “spread the Ida love” and hopefully encourage others to take a look at her films and/or introduce new fans.
All film bloggers are encouraged to contribute something! You can write about Ida’s career as an actress or director in films or television or any aspect of her personal life that you find particularly interesting. Basically, if Ida is your main focus, anything is acceptable. Don’t know what movies Ida starred in and directed? click here to see her complete filmography and if you don’t have any DVDs on hand, here is an updated list of some of Ida’s movies that you can watch online. Also: Feel free to be as creative as you want with your topics.
Posts can be made at your own blog on either August 1st or 2nd, 2011 and if you’d like to participate please leave a comment at this post. Make sure you let me know that you want to participate by July 30th at the latest. It’s fine if you don’t know what you’re going to write about yet; just make sure your post is in by the previously mentioned dates. On August 3, I’ll make a compilation post here of all the entries and if this goes over big I may plan on doing it again. Thanks in advance to everyone who participates!
